Fiji Shopping

The marvellous archipelago nation of Fiji is on every traveller’s bucket list. Made up of more than 330 islands and islets Fiji’s beauty is incomparable and is probably why many Hollywood movies have been shot here. You get immaculate beaches with clear waters, great water sports options and incredible seafood.

Fiji is a paradise for beach lovers but did you know you can shop your heart out too?

Not long ago there weren’t many options to shop from due to the nation’s remoteness. However, things have changed; thanks to globalization.

What to shop from Fiji?

There are two reasons tourists shop from Fiji- out of love and out of stock!

Fiji with its rich indigenous as well as acquired Indian and European heritage gives you great souvenir and crafts options. You can buy Bula shirts, kava, war clubs, tapas or bark clothing, Fijian pearls and many others which are true embodiments of Fiji.

Of course, being in a remote part of the world, you can run out of essential items. Do not worry! Fiji has both modern supermarkets as well as local markets to choose from. Here is a list of markets and shopping centres from Fiji so that all your shopping needs here are met with.

Local Markets

These are markets for groceries like fresh produce of fruits and vegetables and artisan products.

Jack’s of Fiji

Hands down one of the best souvenir shops of Fiji. The quality, service and pricing of items here will impress you. It is highly recommended that you buy authentic souvenirs and fijian handicraft from Jack’s. You can get Fijian (Bula) shirts and handicraft items like tapa and wooden statues, masks, weapons (mostly war clubs) and bilos (drinking cups). Being an established business Jack’s also offers its own clothing line unique to Fijian heritage, wellness and beauty products like skincare and perfumes.

La Galerie

Situated in the Musket Cove Island Resorts part of Malolo Lailai Islands in Nadi, La Galarie’s offerings include local jewelry and artwork. If you are reaching by flight you can ask locals for directions which will lead you to a hilltop. You will not regret the hike beholding the breathtaking view from this cute gallery. The gallery offers you personalized experiences like making jewellery out of freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones, tie-dying your own Tee or sarong, and making and painting over vases which you can take away. The souvenirs here are guaranteed handmade and fairly priced.

Baravi Handicrafts & Cafe

A quick stopover for tourists travelling between Suva and Nadi, Baravi Handicrafts & Cafe offers sumptuous food at modest prices. Most of the customers are part of tours. You can definitely give this cafe a try because of its friendly staff and handicrafts offerings.

Nadi Handicraft Market

The Nadi Handicraft market is maintained by the city’s council. It is filled with many small shops. You can get okayish quality things from this market. If you are keen on buying something then you better be prepared to bargain aggressively.

Suva Municipal Market

Located in Fiji’s capital Suva, Suva Municipal Market is your typical farmer’s market with fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and fresh juices to buy from. You can find locals getting fresh produce at fixed rates in the otherwise tourist-filled Fiji. Although open from morning it is most bustling in the evenings. On Saturdays, the seafood options are out of this world. It is closed on Sundays.

Sigatoka Market

Situated right next to the river Sigatoka, this market offers fresh vegetables and fruits. Although it is a little smaller than Suva Market you can get the same variety plus this market is located in a town where you can get almost anything. Beware of a few hagglers trying to sell you things.
